Ever since the Riverside Stadium opened in 1995, Middlesbrough FC has enjoyed a new level of success. In their first season at the Riverside, Boro won promotion to Division One and then reached the League Cup Final. Since then they’ve been promoted five more times and got to another League Cup final.

It’s not just on the pitch where the Riverside Stadium has brought success to Middlesbrough FC. The club has also seen record levels of commercial and hospitality income since moving to Riverside. In fact, in their first season at the stadium, hospitality income increased by an incredible 400%.

What is the Riverside Stadium?

The Riverside Stadium is a football stadium in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, England. It has been the home of Middlesbrough FC since they moved from Ayresome Park in 1995. The Riverside can hold up to 34,742 spectators and has been the venue for international matches, rock concerts and other events.

The riverside stadium can be split into four quadrants,the North Stand, The West Stand, The East Stand, The South Stand. With the away fans sitting in the south stand.

How did Middlesbrough FC benefit from moving to the Riverside Stadium? 

Middlesbrough FC enjoyed a new level of success in their first season at the Riverside Stadium. They won promotion to Division One and reached the League Cup Final. A huge benefit of the move is the stadium capacity increase, Ayresome Park had a capacity of 26,667 whilst the new Riverside has 34,742. 

What is the matchday experience like at the Riverside Stadium? 

If you’re a Boro fan, the Riverside Stadium is definitely the place to be. The atmosphere on match days is electric and the stadium is always packed full of fans. The concourses are spacious and well-equipped, so you won’t have to miss any of the action. And if you want to get a bit closer to the pitch, there are some great hospitality packages available.

What about the matchday food? 

The Riverside Stadium has a range of food outlets, including burger bars, pizza places and Indian restaurants. There’s also a family-friendly section with child-friendly menus. So whether you’re after a quick snack or a full meal, you’ll be able to find something to suit your taste. If you are looking for food in the surrounding area there are a lot of great choices. Rio Brazilian Steakhouse is one of these great choices. What makes this restaurant so special is how you receive your food. You are given a card with a green bull on one side and a red bull on the other. When you have the green bull facing upwards chefs will bring out dishes and carve them at your table.If you need a break you can turn the card over so the red bull is showing. Offering a very unique experience it is definitely worth a visit. 

Are there any nearby pubs, bars or hotels? 

Yes, the Riverside Stadium is situated in a great location for pubs, bars and hotels. There are plenty of places to choose from, so you’re sure to find something to suit your taste. A premier Inn can be found in Middlesbrough Town Centre. Receiving a score of 4.5 on Tripadvisor and it received a seal of approval from Tripadvisor with a Traveller’s choice award. And if you’re looking for something a bit more upmarket, the Hilton Tees Valley is just a few minutes away from the stadium.

Where to park on match day?

There are various council-run car park areas around the ground that you will see signs posted. Most offer match day parking for £3-6.  If you have arrived in an away coach then, of course, you will get free on-site parking. A brief 14 minute walk away from the stadium is France Street which offers 2hours of parking for £1.30. Or there is Oak Street which offers parking for £2 with a 20 minute walk.

Where is the ticket office?

There are ticket offices situated all around the stadium and are open from 2hours before kick off. Alternatively you can buy your tickets online. On the website you have the option of buying home tickets, away and season tickets. These tickets can be bought up to kick off and can be printed off at home or delivered. Alternatively you can purchase tickets over the phone. 

How do I get there? 

The Riverside Stadium is easy to get to. It’s just a short walk from Middlesbrough town centre and there’s Middlesbrough bus station right next to the stadium. You can also catch a train to Middlesbrough railway station, which is just a few minutes away from the stadium. You will easily be able to spot the stadium when you see the old ayresome park gates (Middlesbrough old ground, which was situated a few miles away in Linthorpe).

What kind of food and drink can you get at the stadium on match day? 

The Riverside Stadium has a range of food outlets, including burger bars, pizza places and Indian restaurants. There’s also a family-friendly section with child-friendly menus. So whether you’re after a quick snack or a full meal, you’ll be able to find something to suit your taste. As for drinks, there’s a bar in each corner of the stadium, as well as a champagne bar for those looking for something a bit more luxurious. And if you want to keep up with the score during the match, there are plenty of TVs showing the action.

You can enjoy a delicious meal and some great views of the pitch, all while watching the match in style. With this package you will receive reserved premium car parking and access to the stadium through the executive entrance at the west stand. Champagne and canapes will be available to you upon entry. A four-course dish will also be provided with many great options. You will find yourself watching the game from the directors box, which offers a very comfortable environment. After the game the experience continues with more refreshments and entertainment. 

Fenton Club offers another great experience. A wonderful panoramic view of the pitch can be seen from the club. It’s perfect for a match day. This package also gives you access to the stadium through the executive entrance at the west stand. A three course Calvary meal is also provided that offers a high standard of food. You will also be given access to refreshments throughout the day. 

Hardwick Bar is a more affordable package which still offers many great features. With a much more relaxed environment a great atmosphere can be found. The bar will be open throughout your stay and offer a good range of drinks. One of the better features is the priority access to highly demanded away game tickets. 

Legends lounge offers another great view of the pitch from the south west corner of the stadium. With this package you will receive a three course calvary meal. As well as a complimentary bar that offers beer, larger, wines and soft drinks. One of the great things about this package are the padded seats you get to watch the game from. Halftime refreshments are also on offer. 

The Riverside Restaurant offers an amazing match day experience with a four course meal. You will be greeted with a drink upon arrival after parking in the private parking bay. Refreshments will be available to you throughout your stay which you can enjoy on your padded match seating in the west stand
